A letter from my father-in-law to his lawyer.
Will
This letter is to the County Attorney (Will Ramsay). My question is what rules do the local businesses work under to allow them to have betting machines in their establishments?
The reason I ask is that at one time I rented my office building, by the railroad track, to a family who wanted to do that but after remodeling the building and moving their machines in they were approached by Ricky Jones and told them to move back out. I forget about those machines because they are hidden from view.
I was reminded however, a couple of weeks back when I tried to cash a check at this little store near my home and was told I was on the hot check list. An argument ensued and after talking to the Manager on the phone, I threw the phone in the trash on my way out. Eva Sims explained that my checks had certainly been turned down by my bank after I found that Mr. Tommy Fountain Jr. had stolen them and forged over $600 worth that he cashed $80 at a time at that store. I believe Mr. Fountain is in the big house for that crime as I write this email. The store cashed the checks without Mr. Fountains name being on the check in any location. I do know that Mr. Fountain had a bad a bad gambling problem and had to resort to forgery to support his habit.
After the argument that night I was awaken from a deep sleep, to my dogs barking and someone beating on the door. As I have done at times I pulled my daughters Smith and Wesson 44 magnum with an 8 inch barrel (Cole and I had bought it for her for Christmas when she was 16 and she never really got comfortable with it, from under my mattress and stepped out to the back porch. Not one but two armed police officers stood at the back door. My life flashed before my eyes. That could certainly cause them to open fire. One officer said Mr. Barker you need to put that gun down, thank God and Paul Fletcher for sensible deputies. I invited the officers in and they said they would if I put the gun down. It was at that moment when one officer said “and Mr. Barker when you put the gun up would you please put some underwear on”, that I realized I was only wearing a short T-shirt.
Anyway I dressed and the officers came into the kitchen with a criminal trespassing warning for the little store down the street. I proceed to tell the officers about the scene of the crime and drew circles and arrows on a piece of paper to describe the event.
Here are my questions: is it against the law to throw someone’s phone in the trash? Aren’t they breaking some law by having me on a hot check list? If they can have gambling machines, can I?
Looking forward to your answers.
